Ireland’s 7 Darkest Goddesses
The image above is of a Norse goddess. She’s holding a Viking shield with the name of Norse god Tyr.
Well spotted! The Morrigan was deemed to have her name going back to Norse roots and indeed the Tuatha Dé Danann, Formorians and their predecessors came to Irish shores from overseas. As you no doubt know, the rune spelling of Tyr carved on one’s shield or sword is said to bring victory and of course the Vikings are synonymous with Irish history. The image depicted is that of a goddess in a position of power and dominance rather than a specific goddess. Of course there aren’t any actual pictures of The Morrigan and those artistic interpretations available do not exhibit the strength of the goddess as I would have liked. My choice is representative of her purpose and power, nothing more. Thank you for reading my blog post and taking the time to respond. Regards, Ann.
